How I spend my time...

Data Portrait

Goals of this Project

I gathered data from my daily life to buiold this data portrait. I always feel that I never have enough time in a day. I belive this is because I usually binge one for the whole day. If I have a lot of homework, I try to keep working without a break unitl it all done. Conversely, I also spend the whole day playing video games when I have a free day. So I decided to track everything I do on the regular and try to get a visual respresentation of how I spend my time.

Design Process

I started by keeping a spreadsheet with all of my actives througout the day. Some of these actives include homework, class, work, video games, spending time with family, and walking the dog. I tracked this data for a little more than a weeks.

From there I feed the data into my program using JSON. The program draws ellipses for each hour I spent doing an activity. The activities are draw in a random order, but the volume of each ellipse shows how my time is spread out.

Reflection

I liked be able to use data from my life to feed into a program. However, I could not come up with enough ideas to uses this data in a creative way. The data I gathered from my life did not feel as if it had any significances to my program.

If I were to try this project again in the future, I would gather data about topics that could relate to the final drawing more. Such as if I track each time I heard a dog bark, and the use that data to draw something related to dogs.
